Communication skills are important - especially for children

We all know we can probably improve on our communication skills, but did you know that it is very helpful for children to learn this early on?  Communication skills are not just for the office or boardroom; they are necessary on the playground as well.  We learn early on that some people are better at getting what they want than others; often this is a sign of good communication skills and abilities.  If you want someone to do what you want and not resent you for it, then you need to learn how to communicate this to them in such a way that they do not feel as if they are being manipulated or taken advantage of.  Little Susie has no real reason to give little Timmy the bucket and shovel from the other side of the sand box unless Timmy convinces her that it is a good thing to do - either it will make him more her friend, or he can help her build her sand castle with it.  This is a basic example of children’s communication skills; parents would be wise to make sure their children develop powerful communication skills.
