How to Design a Kitchen? Take Advice With a Grain of Salt!

Everyone thinking about kitchen remodeling wants to end up with the kitchen of their dreams. However, let's face it - if your kitchen remodeling loan is bigger than the mortgage on your house, that dream kitchen may start to be the stuff of nightmares. Taking advice on how to design a kitchen from magazines and TV shows might lead you to think that it's not worthwhile to even consider a kitchen redo without including a commercial-size range, top of the line oversized cabinet-depth refrigerator, marble or granite countertops, solid cherry cabinets, etc., etc. But really, how much of this stuff is actually going to make a difference in how usable your kitchen is on a day-to-day basis? Even a gourmet chef who regularly entertains large groups of people doesn't need cherry cabinets. Concentrating on a professional quality stove and oven and sufficient counter space should be his priority. Similarly, you can adhere to a sensible budget and still have a kitchen you'll love to use and be proud to show off. Just spend your money on the one or two things that you'll use and enjoy on a day to day basis. You can subsitite less expensive options for the other items and never notice the difference - well, maybe with the exception of that lower loan payment!
