You can be both author and publisher, if you know how to publish your own book.

Open the cover of a book, and you will see a few different names. The author’s name will appear, as well as the name of the publishing company. The name of the illustrator will also be listed, if the book contains pictures. If you come across a book that is self-published, you will notice that the name of a publishing company does not appear. Instead, the author’s name will appear twice - as both author and publisher. You too can have your name listed twice in the first few pages of a book - providing that you have written a manuscript and you know how to publish your own book. Author and editor dual roles are not uncommon anymore. Traditional publishing companies turn down a lot of manuscripts, so some writers see self-publishing as an alternative method to getting their book published. But, rejection is not the only motive for self-publishing. Many authors are making a personal decision to self-publish, simply because they know how to do it, and they feel up to the challenge.
